Francis John Henry Jenkinson (1853-1923) was born at Forres, Morayshire, on 20 August 1853. He was educated at a private school at Woodcote, near Henley-on-Thames, and at Marlborough College. In 1872 he entered Trinity College, Cambridge (B.A., 1876; M.A., 1879), where he became a Fellow in 1878. Samuel Pegge was born 5 November at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was educated at Chesterfield and St. John's College, Cambridge from where he graduated BA in 1725 and MA 1729. Pegge was ordained in 1729, became curate at Sundridge, Kent in 1730 and the vicar of Godmersham, Kent in 1731. From 1749 to 1751 he lived in Surrenden, Kent as tutor to the son of Sir Edward Dering. The Zodiac Club was founded on 10 December 1725 by students of Cambridge University. There were twelve members initially, who were each assigned one of the signs of the Zodiac. The numbers were increased to 18 in 1728, with the new members designated the name of a planet. The first members were bachelors of the university, but later members included masters and a few fellows. The society was a social club, and held its meetings at a local tavern.
