The Bulletin, later UEA Bulletin, began publication in October 1965 in the light of the rapid growth of UEA, as a publication which would tell us what is going on [foreword to the first issue by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Frank Thistlethwaite]. Viscount Mackintosh of Halifax chaired the Promotion Committee, a broad-based group established in 1958, the task of which was to campaign for the establishment of a new university in East Anglia. Mackintosh was temperamentally well suited to the role and spoke widely in support of the project.
