Loughborough College of Education originated from the Department for the Training of Teachers opened at Loughborough College in 1930. This was also known as the East Midlands Training College and offered training for teachers of Handicraft. The origins of the present Loughborough University lie in Loughborough College which began life as the Loughborough Technical Institute.
