This series consists of ledgers that record expenditures charged to the various appropriations or accounts maintained by the Hayward Indian School. Entry sheets show the appropriation title, dates, credits and debits in the proper fund category, and the voucher which covered the transaction. Appropriation categories include such items as "Pay of Indian Police," "Support of Lake Superior Chippewas," and "Sundries Receipts," among others.

Hayward Boarding School

The Hayward Indian School in Hawyward, Wisconsin, was opened in 1901 as a boarding school for the Chippewa of the Lac Courte Oreille Reservation. It was subordinate to the La Pointe Agency until 1904. About 1911 it was given agency duties for the reservation. The school was closed in 1934, and its duties were transferred to the Lac du Flambeau Agency. ...
