This series consists of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Savannah (Georgia) Field Division investigative case files relating to violations of civil rights laws. The files pertain to allegations of brutality by police officers or corrections officers; an investigation of the Long County Police Department; and complaints of voter registration irregularities (Case File #44-1454). Other files concern the investigation of the murders of civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner (Case File #44-1265) who were killed by Ku Klux Klan members and later buried in an earthen dam in Neshoba County, Mississippi; and a threat made against President Jimmy Carter. The files contain correspondence, memorandums, newspaper clippings, photographs, and reports.
