This series contains invoices, correspondence, requests for withdrawal of funds, and lists of items purchased. These records document the amounts spent, the accounts from which the monies were drawn, the purchase order numbers, and the reasons for expenditures. Included is information about accounts belonging to the Associated Student Body, classes, or other student groups. The records document the purchase of equipment, supplies, and food for school-related activities. Also included are time and attendance sheets documenting the hours that students worked at the store and the amount of pay they received.

The Sherman Institute was established in 1900, as a successor to the Perris Indian School (Perris, Calif.), after the water supply to the previous school was deemed insufficient. By 1901 a site in the city of Riverside was selected, at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Jackson Street. On July 19, 1901, the cornerstone was laid for the new school building of Sherman Institute, and the school officially opened on September 9, 1902.
