Edwin J. Beinecke Enameled Glass Collection Documentation

1493-1966

The Edwin J. Beinecke Enameled Glass Collection Documentation consists of bound volumes of assembled excerpts and accompanying English translations of auction catalogs, museum publications, periodical articles, and monographs pertaining to Beinecke's enameled glass collection, donated to The Corning Museum of Glass in 1957. References to objects in the collection are noted with Beinecke's original object numbers. Some references document objects in Beinecke's collection, while others document parallels. The volumes also includes information about Beinecke's Kreussen and Meissen stoneware collections. Among Beinecke's documentation of heraldry on enameled glass are leaves from the 1493 Nuremberg Chronicle depicting the Emperor and Prince Electors of the Holy Roman Empire. Researchers will also find an extensive bibliography with references to objects in his collection and six photograph albums documenting his glass and stoneware collection. Researchers should note that the photographs are located in between the folded scrapbook pages. The volumes and albums have been retained in original order and described with their original titles. Missing volume numbers represent separated materials added to the library's book collection or discarded. Dates assigned to the volumes are the publication dates of the excerpted material. The creation dates of the volumes themselves are unknown.
