This series contains supplemental classified general working files of the U.S. Legation, Morocco. The files typically consist of instructions, despatches, telegrams, memoranda, reports, and other correspondence with the Department of State in Washington; correspondence with other United States embassies and consulates; correspondence with private individuals and businesses; and internal memoranda and reports exchanged between legation officials. Subjects covered may include the internal political, economic, governmental, and social affairs of the host country; the bilateral relations of the United States and the host country; the relations of the host country with its neighbors, international organizations, and other nations; and any subject which legation officials felt might impact the interests of the United States. The files also may include information on internal operations and organization of the Legation and Legation efforts on behalf of United States citizens and businesses.

The first U.S. envoy to Morocco presented his credentials on September 29, 1906. On July 1, 1917, the U.S. Legation at Tangier was downgraded to an Agency and Consulate General, and in 1925 the U.S. mission was designated a Diplomatic Agency and Consulate General. The Legation was reinstated in 1933. The U.S. Embassy at Rabat was established on June 11, 1956, and on that same date the Legation at Tangier was redesignated as a Consulate General....
