U.S. congressman The Honorable Louis Stokes (1925 - 2015 ) was the first African American member of Congress from Ohio. During his thirty-year tenure, he served on a number of committees including Appropriations, Intelligence and Ethics. He was also a co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus. Stokes was interviewed by The HistoryMakers on 3/18/2005 and 2/7/2007, in Washington, D.C.. This collection is comprised of the video footage of the interview.

Louis Stokes (February 23, 1925 – August 18, 2015) was an American attorney, civil rights pioneer and politician. He served 15 terms in the United States House of Representatives – representing the east side of Cleveland – and was the first African American congressman elected in the state of Ohio.
