State labor commissioner The Honorable Michael Thurmond (1953 - ) was the first African American to be elected to the Georgia General Assembly from Clarke County since Reconstruction. Later, Thurmond became the first African American elected Georgia State Labor Commissioner, an office he held for over ten years. Thurmond was interviewed by The HistoryMakers on 10/12/2004, in Atlanta, Georgia. This collection is comprised of the video footage of the interview.
