Silvio Vittore Alberto Scionti was born on November 20, 1882, in Acireale, Sicily, in Italy. In his early years, he studied piano with his uncle, and later studied with Beniamino Cesi at the Palermo Conservatory, and with Florestano Rossomandi at the Royal Conservatory of Naples. Scionti moved to Chicago on the invitation of Rossomandi's friend Enrico Sansoni, a violinist who wanted to start a music school. Mary Nan Hudgins Mailman was born in Forney, Texas on April 29, 1929. She grew up in Dallas, attended North Dallas High School (class of 1946), and studied with Silvio Scionti at what is now the University of North Texas, earning bachelor's and master's degrees (1950 and 1956). Jean Mainous was a concert pianist, educator, and faculty member of the University of North Texas (UNT) College of Music.
