This series consists of the working files of McGeorge Bundy during his time as Executive Secretary of the Special Committee of the National Security Council. The Committee was established to coordinate the handling of the Middle East Crisis. The files reflect the time period and subject matters for which Bundy was responsible in his capacity as Executive Secretary of the Special Committee. This series includes memorandums, correspondence, telegrams, cables, statements, reports, clippings, notes, and other written material concerning the Middle East Crisis (Six Day War) of 1967. The material covers a wide range of topics relating to international affairs impacted by the crisis including economy, agriculture, trade, and travel bans. In addition, the documents also reflect more immediate topics related to the crisis including the attack on the USS Liberty, military aid, arms limitations, intelligence reports, statements made concerning the crisis, resolutions, and international leaders' reactions and positions regarding the crisis, as well as international attempts at negotiations and resolutions of the crisis. This series also includes some background material on the crisis as well as material extending beyond the initial crisis and concerning resulting problems in the Middle East and the international community and the U.S. handling of these problems. The documents in this series consist of originals, carbon copies, and photocopies.

McGeorge Bundy (1919-1996) was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the national security advisor to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He attended school at private institutions, including Dexter, Groton, and Yale University, from which he graduated first in his class with a degree in mathematics.
