The Girl Scouts were founded by Juliette Gordon Low on March 12, 1912 when Low organized the first Girl Guide troop meeting of 18 girls at her home in Savannah, Georgia. Kenneth Lee Salazar, a fifth generation Coloradan, was born in Alamosa, Colorado, on March 2, 1955. He grew up on a ranch alongside his seven brothers and sisters nearly 300 miles from Denver.
