Mary Jordan White, born on December 12, 1859 was a teacher who taught at the Belvidere Academy for fourteen years. She was a devout Quaker who influenced many lives in Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. She first attended Belvidere Academy for her primary school; later Mary attended Westtown Boarding School, a Quaker school in Pennsylvania, and graduated with honors in 1881.
