Norman Rockwell Collected Correspondence: fan, personal, business, Molly Rockwell

Bulk, 1947-1978 1919-2009

The Norman Rockwell Donated Correspondence Collection is donated outgoing correspondence from Norman Rockwell or his third wife sent between 1919 and 1978. The collection is mostly fan response letters from Rockwell, but also includes business and personal correspondence, as well as postcards and letters sent by Rockwell’s third wife, Molly. Rockwell made it a point to answer all fan correspondence, even if it was simply to recognize the sentiments of writing the fan letter. The response letters in this collection are a testament not only to his popularity with his fans as evidenced by the preservation of the response letters, but also to Rockwell’s promotion of connection to his fans. The material from Molly Rockwell represents the last decade of Norman’s life including letters and postcards sent to friends of the couple. It highlights their love of travel and interactions with the world at large. The personal correspondence of Rockwell also emphasizes his connection to those around him and his life long friendships.
