Joe Engle (b. Aug. 26, 1932, Chapman, KS) was an Air Force pilot and NASA Astronaut. He was commander on the second flight of the Columbia Space Shuttle (STS-2) and mission commander on Discovery (STS-51-I). Engle also participated in the Challenger disaster investigation in 1986.
