Memoranda Denying Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus

This item consists of copies of two memoranda denying the petition for habeas corpus submitted by Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. The memoranda were issued on August 10, 1927 by George W. Anderson, Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Associate Justice, Supreme Court of the United States. These copies were filed with the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts on August 11, 1927.

Mrs. Holmes was connected to the leading families; Henry James Sr., Ralph Waldo Emerson and other transcendentalists were family friends.
