This collection of technical drawings form part of Washington State Library's MS 30 manuscript collection about the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition that was held in Seattle, WA in 1909. This part of the collection consists of 8 hand-drawn technical drawings for the grading and landscaping of a few buildings at the A-Y-P Exposition. The drawings are white pencil on blue paper. They range in size from 32 x 35 cm. (13 x 14 in.) to 50 x 53 cm. (20 x 23 in.). Five of the eight sheets are stamped with "Olmsted Brothers, Landscape Architects, Brookline, Mass." There is a separate date stamp of "Apr. 3, 1909" on four; "Apr. 12, 1909" on one. Each sheet is dated in the legend of the plan. This date ranges from Mar. 11, 1909 through Apr. 6, 1909 with one having a revision date of Mar. 13, 1909. Each sheet has the initials "H.H.B." on it. Some have "Study H.H.B." and one has "J.F.D. & H.H.B." Two have "File No. 2739" on them. Two of the plans also include a plant list with the number and placement of plants around the exposition building.

The Olmsted Brothers firm was formed in 1898 by John Charles Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. These two stepbrothers were the son and stepson of Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., an early American landscape architect and designer of New York's Central Park. Maud P. Mitchell was born about 1883 in Oregon. She married Chas. R. Mitchell and by 1920 they were living in Chehalis, WA. Charles was an assistant cashier at the bank. Charles had become a banker by 1930. Between 1957 & 1958 Charles passed away. And Maud passed away on 29 May 1960 in Chehalis, WA.
