There are 23 letters from Croy to Chapman (originals) and 34 letters from Chapman to Croy (carbon copies); there is also one letter to Chapman from Harry F. Hull. The collection contains one postal card and one telegram. The correspondence concerns Croy's work as a freelance writer contributing pieces to Chapman's syndicate, particularly a humorous series called "Baseball-ographies." Croy was also the editor of a journal called The Magazine Maker, and frequently writes on stationary with its letterhead.

William Gerard Chapman (1877-1945), a native of New York, was an American author of Green-Timber Trails and journalist and the owner of the International Press Bureau, a literary agency in Chicago. ...
