Mary Minerva Dart Judd (1838-1909) and her family first heard of Mormonism from her uncle, Sidney Roberts, who had come from Nauvoo, Illinois to preach to his family and friends. Her family decided to travel from their home in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Utah in order to investigate the doctrines that their uncle had espoused to them. Leaving in 1849, they spent the summer in Council Bluffs, Iowa before arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1850. Answering the call of Brigham Young, Mary's father moved his family to Parowan in 1851. The next year Mary married Zodak (or Zadok) Knapp Judd (1827-1909). Along with her husband, Mary would live in various Mormon settlements including Santa Clara, Eagle Valley, and Kanab.
