Jacob³ Kip (Isaac², Hendrick¹) with his brother Hendrick³, were the original owners (1686) of the tract known as Kipsbergen, now Rhinebeck, New York. It adjoined a tract purchased by Gerrit Artsen (Van Wagenen), Arie Rosa, and Jan Elton (Elting). The properties lay between the Hudson River and Landsman's Kill and were enlarged by additional purchases. The Kip, Van Wagenen, and Van Benthuysen families were related.
