Biographical History

Jacob³ Kip (Isaac², Hendrick¹) with his brother Hendrick³, were the original owners (1686) of the tract known as Kipsbergen, now Rhinebeck, New York. It adjoined a tract purchased by Gerrit Artsen (Van Wagenen), Arie Rosa, and Jan Elton (Elting). The properties lay between the Hudson River and Landsman's Kill and were enlarged by additional purchases. The Kip, Van Wagenen, and Van Benthuysen families were related.

See Kip, Frederic Ellsworth. "History of the Kip Family in America". Montclair, N.J., 1928, pp327-347.

From the description of Deed, survey, and map of Johann Kip's land (and others) in Beekman Patent, (Rhinebeck Precinct), Dutchess County, New York, sold to Solomon Du Bois, 1763-1773. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 122468697
