Schlegel was a famous Germany literary critic and philosopher and with his brother August Wilhelm part of the Romantic movement in Germany that included Ludwig Tieck and August Ferdinand Bernhardi. Sophie Tieck married Bernhardi in 1799, however the marriage broke down by 1805. In 1810 she married Knorring; she was a poet.
