Branch Rickey played for the St. Louis Browns (1905-1906, 1914 as player-manager) and the New York Highlanders of the American League (1907). During his playing career, Rickey managed the Browns (1913). After his playing career, Rickey managed the Browns (1915) and the St. Louis Cardinals (1919-1925). Rickey is best known as a baseball executive serving as the St. Louis Cardinals president (1917), vice-president and general manager (1926-1942), president and general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers (1942-1950), and vice- president and general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates (1951-1955). During Rickey's tenure the Cardinals won six National League pennants and four World Series and the Dodgers two National League pennants. Rickey was the key figure in Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier in 1947 and in the development of baseball's farm system. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1967. JohnnY Mokan played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1921-1922) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1922-1927); he worked for the Division of Recreation in Buffalo, New York (1942).
