Thornton, James, 1785-1858

James Thornton was a Quaker farmer from Byberry, Philadelphia. He was born in April 1785 to Joseph Thornton and Hannah Haines Thornton. His father died when James was 5, and his mother remarried 7 years later to widower Peter Yarnall, who died a year after the wedding. In 1818 Thornton married Rebecca Stokes, daughter of Dr. John H. Stokes and Ann Evans. He died in 1858.
