Joseph Burroughs was a Quaker from Burlington County, New Jersey. He was born to Samuel and Ann (Gray) Burroughs on the 24th of the 2nd month 1736 (new style). In 1765 Burroughs married Mary Pine, daughter of Bery Pine; they had a son named William. He was a member of Haddonfield Monthly Meeting and Chester Monthly Meeting. Burroughs died June 9, 1814 in his 79th year.
