Richmond, Cedric, 1973-
Variant namesCedric Levan Richmond (born September 13, 1973) is an American lawyer and politician serving as a Senior Advisor to the President and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 2nd congressional district from 2011 to 2021.
Richmond was born in New Orleans in 1973 and raised in New Orleans East, where he attended public schools. Richmond graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1991 then matriculated to Morehouse College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and the Tulane University School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor. He also completed an executive program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
The year following his graduation from Tulane, Richmond was elected to the Louisiana state house of representatives and he served there from 2000 to 2011, one of the youngest legislators ever to serve in Louisiana when he took office. An unsuccessful candidate for nomination to Congress in 2008, he was elected to Congress two years later. Re-elected five times, Richmond resigned his seat on January 15, 2021 ahead of serving as Senior Advisor to the President and director of the Office of Public Liaison in the Biden White House.
