Lucy Virginia Allen married Daniel Lindley in 1834, becoming Lucy Lindley. They were sent by the American Board of Missions to South Africa, where they were first posted in Matabeleland. In 1842, Lindley led the founding congregation of the first Dutch Reformed Church, and in 1847, he established a station at Inanda. Lucy Lindley accompanied him in his missionary and educational efforts and was involved with his work. The Lindley family, including their eleven children, moved to the Inanda Mission in 1858. Lucy and Daniel Lindley retired in 1873 and retired to Morristown, New Jersey.
