PEER, a project of the National Organization for Women Legal Defense and Education Fund, was funded mainly by grants from the Carnegie Corporation and Ford Foundation, and was established in 1974 to monitor the government's progress in enforcing federal laws against sex discrimination in the public schools. It publishes a newsletter and other material on equal education and the law.
