Dickinson, Don M.
Dickinson was born in Port Ontario (N.Y.) in 1842. Ten years later his family moved to Mich. He married Frances Platt in 1869. A lawyer of some reknown, Dickinson was a powerful figure in the State Democratic Party. He was appointed Postmaster General during Grover Cleveland's first administration. (Information from the collection.) Sill (Nov. 24, 1831- ) came to Mich. at age 11. He graduated from the State Normal School (1854), served as principal of the Detroit Female Seminary, 1863-1873; Supt. Detroit schools, for many years beginning in 1875; Pres. of the State Normal School; Regent of the University of Michigan, 1867-1869; and minister to Korea, 1894-1897.
