American pianist and compuser.
Robert Helps (1928-2001) studied under Abby Whiteside, piano, and Roger Sessions, composition. Helps served as professor of piano at the New England Conservatory, the San Francisco Conservatory, Princeton University, Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Manhattan School of Music. He was Professor of Music at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, from 1980 until his death at 72 in 2001. He performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. He composed piano, chamber, and symphonic works. In 1996, Robert Helps received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
