Brig. Gen. James Stevens Simmons (1900-1954) served as the first Dean of the Harvard School of Public Health from 1946 to 1954, when the institution becam an independent part of Harvard University. During World War II, he was Chief of Preventative Medicine for the U.S. Army. In 1949, he edited and published Public Health in the World Today.
