Selverstone, Robert, 1940-

Psychologist, teacher, and guidance counselor Robert Selverstone earned degrees at Cornell University (BA 1961), Brooklyn College, City University of New York (MS 1966) and New York University (PhD 1971). An expert in sex education for adolescents, he served as a guidance counselor and teacher at schools in Ridgefield and Westport, Connecticut from 1966 to 1996. He was the author of numerous papers on human sexuality training, a consultant to many educational videos and television programs, and served as president of the board of directors of SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S.). In 2010 Selverstone was interviewed by Janice M. Irvine as part of an oral history project focused on sex educators from the 1960s and 1970s.
