Professor of sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Janice M. Irvine is the author of Disorders of Desire: Sex and Gender in Modern American Sexology (1990, 2005) and Talk about Sex: The Battles over Sex Education in the United States (2002), among others. She interviewed a number of sex educators active in the 1960s and 1970s as part of an oral history project.
