Terry Dempsey, a Minnesota state representative (Independent-Republican, District 23A), was elected in 1978 and resigned in 1992 to accept a judicial appointment. Dempsey, a New Ulm attorney, served constituents in Brown, Redwood, and Cottonwood counties. He sat on the Judiciary (Crime and Family Law Division), Taxes (Property Tax Division), Transportation, and Ways and Means committees, and on the Legislative Coordinating Commission. He was elected assistant house minority leader in 1987 and house minority leader in 1991.
