Flossie Goetz was one of seven children of a Guelph, Ont. hotelkeeper. She went from high school to a one-year course known as "The Diamond Ring Course" at Macdonald Institute. In 1924 she entered St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Hamilton and upon graduation worked at St. Joseph's Hospital.
