William Harold Reid graduated from OAC with an Associate Diploma in 1920. He received his BA from Queen's University in 1924, graduated from Knox College and ordained in 1928, and earned an MA in oriental languages from University of Toronto in 1928. He ministered for several years in various Ontario and Quebec Presbyterian churches. W. H. Reid was lecturer in Hebrew at The Presbyterian College, Montreal, from 1955-1968. He was also a photographer and has many negatives in the Public Archives of Canada and in the Archives of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Rev. W. Harold Reid died on Dec. 21, 1991 at the age of 96. The budding knife (bone with metal blade and ivory) was used from 1900-1920 for summer budding of apple trees and occasionally for rose budding (up to about 1925) by his father, W. C. Reid, who established Belleville Nurseries in 1893. Propagation of fruit trees (including 40 and later up to over 100 varieties of apples), ornamental trees and shrubs, climbing vines, roses and evergreens was carried out as well as considerable experimental work on hardiness of trees and shrubs. Mr. Reid was in demand as a judge of fruit at fall fairs, served on the Board of Education, Belleville Horticultural Society, and Belleville Fair Board. He operated the business until his death in 1932, when it was carried on by his son, W. H. Reid. In 1935, the nursery was closed entirely since W. H. Reid wished to devote his entire time to his academic interests and ministerial work.
