Hartwell Family.
Southern Baptist missionaries to China. Jesse B. Hartwell served from 1858-75 and from 1889 to 1912, mainly in Shantung province. From 1875 to 1889, he worked among the Chinese in California, organizing the first Chinese Baptist congregation in the United States. Nellie Hartwell worked among the Cantonese from 1887-91. Anna Hartwell worked with women and children, primarily in Shantung province, from 1892-1940.
