Figure and mural painter; New York, N.Y. and Washington, Conn.

Born Harry Siddons, Alexandria, Egypt. Adopted by his uncle George M. Mowbray. Graduated from West Point in 1875. Three years later, he studied painting under Bonnat in Paris. He has mural decorations in the residences of J.P. Morgan and F.W. Vanderbilt, the Apellate Courthouse of New York, and St. John's Church in Washington, Connecticut. Mowbray was awarded the Clark Prize, National Academy of Design, in 1833 and was made director of the American Academy in Rome in 1903. He was a member of the National Committee of Fine Arts, the Century Club, and the A.I.A. Club.
