Joseph Girod was a planter in St. Charles Parish. Born in Bordeaux, France, he moved to America in 1816. He was the nephew of Nicolas Girod, the first elected mayor (1812-1816) of New Orleans. Joseph's brother, François, lived in Paris, France, and New Orleans. Their father was named Jacques-Antoine Girod.

Joseph Girod, a planter of Saint Charles Parish, Louisiana, was the nephew of Nicolas Girod (1747-1840), the first elected mayor of New Orleans. Joseph came to America from Bordeaux, France in 1816 and settled in Saint Charles Parish. His brother, Francis, lived in Paris, France, and New Orleans. Their father was named Jacques-Antoine Girod.
