Confederate Army officer. A native of Chester County, S.C., he practiced medicine in Texas and returned to Chester at the outset of the Mexican War to raise a company of volunteers, of which he was elected captain and later lieutenant colonel. He signed the Ordinance of Secession and was in active service during the Civil War. After the war he lived in Edgefield (S.C.).
