Zimmern, Alice, 1855-1939
Variant namesAlice Zimmern was born in Nottingham in 1855. She studied classics at Girton 1881-1885 and was later awarded the Gilchrist Travelling Scholarship in 1893. She visited America to study methods of education in schools and colleges and later studied education methods in England, France and Germany. She wrote a number of publications mostly relating to education. She left 150 to Girton for the Alice Zimmern Memorial Prize for Classics. Alice Zimmern died in March 1939.
