Begun in 1927 with the first graduating class, the Texas Tech Alumni Association went through several name changes before settling on the name of Ex-Students Association in September, 1949. Another name change occurred in February 2002 when members of the organization voted to become the Texas Tech Alumni Association. At this time, the organization had roughly 24,000 members and believed the name change would attract a larger membership.

The organization represents all who have attending Tech, not just its graduates, and publishes a bimonthly magazine called the Texas Techsan. Sponsoring events such as Homecoming, awards programs and chapter activities, the Ex-Students Association also provides numerous academic scholarships and offers support for various University and student groups.
