Parkman, William, 1741-1832
Variant namesStorekeeper of Concord, Mass., dealing in dry goods, tableware, notions, groceries, tobacco, liquor, flip by the mug, and sundry other items. Born in Westborough, Mass., Feb. 19, 1741; died in Concord, Feb. 5, 1832. About 1770 he came to live at Nine Acre Corner in Concord, where he farmed and kept a tavern. On Apr. 19, 1775, he was among those sent as messengers to surrounding towns. He later moved closer to the center of town, to a house on property bounded by what are now Main Street and Sudbury Road, behind the present Library site. He kept store in a small building next to his house.
(Cont.) Active in church and civic affairs, serving as Deacon of the First Parish from 1788, as Deputy Sheriff of Middlesex County, and as Justice of the Peace. From 1795 to 1810, he was Postmaster in Concord, his store doubling as post office. Member of the Social Circle in Concord from 1798 to 1825.
