Jones, David, 1736-1820

David Jones, born in New Castle County, De., was ordained a Baptist minister in 1766 and obtained a Pastorate in Freehold, N.J. that same year. In 1772 he undertook a largely unsuccessful mission to the Indians on th east side of the Ohio River. He was appointed Chaplain to a Pennsylvania regiment in 1775, served in that capacity under Col. St. Clair and Generals Gates, Wayne, Brown and Wilkinson until 1802.
