Grant, Ben Z., 1939-

Born in 1939, Benjamin Z. Grant earned his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. Grant worked as an aide for State Representative Cread L. Ray before succeeding him in the Texas House of Representatives for the Third Congressional District from 1971 to 1981. Following his tenure in the Texas Legislature, Grant served as judge of the 71st Judicial District Court in Marshall (1981-1984) and of the Sixth Court of Appeals in Texakana (1985-2003). Vice-president of the Harrison County Historical Museum Board and executive board member of the Texas State Historical Association, he also wrote a column, The History around Us, for the Marshall News Messenger, starting in 1998. Furthermore, Grant published several books and plays, including The Kingfish with Larry L. King (1992) and The Wolf Has No Pillow (2009).
