Norman R. Morrison Memorial Fund

Hide Profile

Norman Morrison (1933-1965), a convinced Quaker, became the Executive Secretary of the Baltimore Monthly Meeting (Stony Run) in 1962. Morrison was distraught as the pace of U.S military involvement and the bombing of civilians in Vietnam escalated; he chose to immolate himself in front of the Pentagon on November 2, 1965. In the days immediately following his death, many contributions and inquiries were sent to Baltimore Monthly Meeting of Friends (Stony Run). Contributions were used to set up two different funds: The Norman R. Morrison Memorial Fund, and the Morrison Family Fund. An annual award was made by Friends World College from the Norman R. Morrison Memorial Fund for a stipend to a student or staff member who has "Norman Morrison's commitment to peace and humanity." The Morrison Family Fund was created to provide financial assistance to Norman Morrison's children.
