Genie Chance was born in Texas. She obtained her bachelor's degree from North Texas State University (1946) and did graduate work at Baylor University. She was an instructor of speech and radio in Texas (1946-1949). In 1959, she moved to Anchorage and worked as a radio and television newscaster and editorialist. She formed a public relations firm (1964), and later served in the Alaska House of Representatives (1969-1975) and Senate (1975-1979). She married William Boardman in 1971. Genie Chance received the McCall's Golden Mike Award and various awards from the Alaska State Press Club.
