California State Library. Board of Trustees.
Established Jan. 24, 1850 by State Legislature, State Library's first library board was set up in 1852 and consisted of five members. Beginning in 1861 and lasting until 1899, three of members were elected, the rest were state officers. In 1899, all were appointed by Governor.
