Percy W. Crosby, son of William and Nancy Crosby of Thorndike, Maine, worked on a ranch in Flat Willow and Grass Range, Montana during 1894 and 1895 when he wrote to Clara B. (Belle) Gordon.

Clara B. (Belle) Gordon, daughter of Daniel and Allia Gordon of Thorndike, Maine, was born in 1869. She corresponded with Percy W. Crosby while he was working on a ranch in Montana and married him sometime after 1895.
